Mermay day 9: Amazon river dolphin, or boto. ...A boto mermaid's kind of just an encantado, isn't she?

Also, happy birthday to @Chorocojo , one of the inspirations for me actually getting into drawing this year.

Mermay day 6: sockeye salmon. Good at leaping.

Mermay day 5: wels catfish. A tourist who came to France and got too obsessed to leave. Enjoys lounging, dining, and pigeons (none of these are mutually exclusive).

Mermay day 4: great white shark. Don't call her a cold-blooded killer; great whites are mesotherms, after all.

Mermay day 3: blue whale. Gonna boop that boat.

Mermay day 2: gulper eel. Gangly, shy, maybe a little unnerving to some, but probably more afraid of you than you are of her. Besides, her teeth are too tiny to even come past her lips, much less take a bite out of you.

After some urging from others, I want to try to use this whole Mermay deal as a way of sharing my doodles on here and try to be less shy about said sharing. So have a fussy betta mermaid to start things off.

Nonetheless, they all have features that belie their separate origins. You can inspect a dolphin and understand it's a mammal, an ichthyosaur a reptile, and a shark a cartilaginous fish. Similarly, the little scalebat has features that aren't that far off from a Rathian/Rathalos.

If you've played Monster Hunter World at all, odds are you've probably seen a scalebat or two. Scalebats found in every region of the New World accessible so far other than Coral Heights. They're skittish and quick to fly away when you stomp through their caves.
