Colchicums are a fantastic flower for autumn colour.
This illustration is a colour engraved plate from Volume 8 of Pierre-Joseph Redouté's 'Les Liliacées', after an original by Redouté published between 1802-1816. We hold a copy in The Lindley Library collection.
A treasure of the Lindley Library is the Album Benary, one of few early printed books offering fine-quality portraits of vegetable cultivars. Issued from 1876-1882 the work consists of four groups of seven chromolithographs, drawn by Ernst Benary.
