11) The MCU literally couldn't have launched with a better movie in 2008 than Iron Man. An exceptional entry that we've seen countless time. Downey earned his island money, but excellent cast all around. Holds up magnificently.

13) We like X-Men: Days of Future Past, but it never recovers from the twist when Magneto tries to murder (the inferior Jennifer Lawrence) Mystique. Too long and repeats too much from prior films. Not nearly as good or resonant as the original comics.

16) Infinity War is an amazing juggling act with iconic moments & enormous scale. Also a middle act that doesn't stand on its own. The first Avengers & Civil War are more entertaining without requiring a syllabus.

21) Dr. Strange: Frank wasn't forgiving of an Iron Man remake reskinned with magic that muted the comics origin. Still would have liked to have seen where Derrickson would have gone with a sequel, but preferred Raimi's take to the initial entry.

28) Ranked Batman Begins 5th on our Bat-Pole. So dull, and the stupid voice. Mostly just adequate. Barely worth mentioning, and certainly lesser than most anything else on this list.

32) Several customers at Frank's shop emphatically if cryptically recommended Unbreakable in 2000. Caught it as a rental. A testament to how low the bar was for comics-adjacent movies at the turn of the century. El Poncho versus Backyard Pool!

33) The original Blade movie should have been on this list, but only Guillermo del Toro's sequel made the cut in Rolling Stone's eyes. Frank has recently watched most existing Blade media in anticipation of the 50th anniversary...

38) Got to call out an anti-Marvel bias when two of their best films don't break the top 20. Captain America: The First Avenger is too naive, corny, & U.S.-cenric for everyone, but so are most super-flicks.
