Inuit mythology has the deity Sedna who guards the oceans. She was a human woman who drowned and became a god. She is often depicted as half human and half orca (killer whale).

In Japan Ningyo are mermaids with beautiful voices who can be both beautiful or ugly depending on the story. Also there flesh is supposedly delicious! (The last image is from @britishmuseum’s collection of erotic Shunga prints)

West Africa also has a pantheon of deities known as Orisha. The deity Yamaya is known as the mother of the ocean. She is often depicted as a mermaid and her shrines can be decorated with figures of mermaids.
