This isn't true: Kotabe's name hasn't been in a video game since WarioWare Smooth Moves in 2006. The current Mario artwork is the work of Shigehisa Nakaue, who sadly often goes unmentioned.
A particularly common and difficult to stamp out misconception (which may originate from us - doh!) is that longtime Mario artist Yoichi Kotabe returned to draw the Peach letters in Super Mario 3D Land and other recent 2D art for the series.
Of particular note is that Penny is drawn with her original hazel eye color here, but the finalized artwork gives her blue eyes.
According to former NOA employee Chris Pranger, Ashley's voice casting in the WarioWare series proved to be problematic.

Fun fax: The Toad Chancellor from Super Mario RPG and the Toad Minister in Paper Mario are the same character. As with Star Hill/Shooting Star Summit, he was given a different name between the English localisation of both games.
