You could argue that the scene in S3 isn’t canon, but nonetheless this scene opens up with birds in the sky & Eren staring at them longingly; the scene conveys his desire to be as free as the birds in the sky, and that his mission doesn’t stop at the sea. #aotali
The Scout regiment are the wings of humanity inside of the walls, their purpose being to grant humanity the freedom they desire so badly. This just places more importance on the association between birds & freedom in the series #aotali
Birds symbolize the ultimate freedom; using their wings, they are unbound from the restraints humans find ourselves grounded by. They have the freedom to roam the Earth as they desire; seas, plains of sand, burning water, land made of ice...they can see it all. #aotali
Something I’ve come to appreciate recently is the motif of birds in AoT. It’s neat how Isayama is able to use them to supplement core themes and ideas, as well as the desires of the characters.
how it feels knowing how absolutely fucking perfect the writing and themes are in Monogatari but also knowing that it’s damn near impossible to recommend to people
This volume has probably been my favourite so far holyyyyy. I tore through it and I have a ton of thoughts.
Ch. 63 reaaaaally drove home how twisted Phos’ actions were. Especially Amethyst’s choice...the twin basically sacrificed themself out of guilt. That was so dark #hnkali
