Such a beautiful rendition of routine activities of rural life in Japan - catching loaches, shrimp, working at the duck coop etc., all captured so well in this Nihonga quadriptych.

Morris was a member of the "Washington Color School" - members of this group practiced "soak staining": pour colors on canvas and let it sit..so you don't see many brushstrokes in such works.

The coloration & drawing of Nandi is simply outstanding here-notice how the artist drew its dewlap - amazing realism in simplicity.

Correct. Also, it was featured in the Royal Insignia of Mysore Kingdom and it is possible that they borrowed it from Vijayanagara Empire which issued coins with double-headed eagles similar to the one in the painting (holding 4 elephants) in the 16th century.

Puerto Rican painter Francisco Oller's works covered several movements: realism, naturalism & impressionism and he oft worked on Caribbean themes like this wonderful still life - what a beauty!

And it was Maria Sibylla Merian, a German-born naturalist, who documented Metamorphosis for the first time.
In 1799, she sailed to Suriname from Europe looking for insects - something no ladies were permitted to do back then.The results were a spectacular treasure for Science!
