It's #PortfolioDay! I'm a scientific illustrator and mainly do digital paintings of birds and other #SciArt but also enjoy doing nerdy things like fanart and DnD/fantasy illustration!
Went out looking for inverts for #InverteFest yesterday and didn't get much, but the weather wasn't great. I'll have to try again today! For now, here's a rough little cicada painting, plus a recently-molted cicada I found in American Samoa a couple years ago.
Another set of paintings to kick off #InverteFest, bumble bees! B. bifarius, B. vosnesenskii, and B. melanopygus (plus bonus horizontal vos), a handful of Sierra Nevada meadow species.
I'm sorry this is the weirdest one yet. Hail king Western Tanager. I'm never putting hair on a bird again. #stircrazybirders
Current strong contender is Zuggtmoy because obviously the Demon Queen of Fungi is an appropriate namesake for a harmless clump of goo that needs to be fed flour.
Here are all three of these together! Each was based on a photo I took of a bird captured during MAPS or TMAPS bird banding over the last couple years. I might do more in the next few weeks, it's fun to come up with costumes! #sciart #stircrazybirders
Visitors to #YosemiteNP are a colorful bunch, and few more so than this elegant Red-breasted Sapsucker in her Victorian finery who dropped by the banding station last summer. https://t.co/zGrAURyPOm
This invasive punk stopped in on the island of Tutuila to show off his look. https://t.co/zGrAURyPOm
Caught this Pacific Kingfisher in #AmericanSamoa but he was less than impressed by the experience. #StirCrazyBirders https://t.co/zGrAURyPOm
