OH SHIT inprnt has free shipping this weekend! i just put prints of the exquisite himbo 3's cover and back cover interior collage up to celebrate! gooooooooo get em!!!! https://t.co/pEObAs17Cz
the street fighter one is a very slight edit of a SFII dhalsim sprite, and the hadouken is straight from ryu's sheet. the background is also from II. i did very little on this one but i hope you enjoy it all the same
idk how familiar people are nowadays with ed roth (who insists on the middle name "big daddy", characteristically) and the rat fink aesthetic. very fun and influential on 90's gross-out stuff, which calls back to himbo's roots. my dad was big into these as a kid
yay spiderverse! i tried several times to do something more along the lines of the poster and iconic "what's up danger" shot, but i couldn't get it looking spiderverse-y enough. i also debated having him shoot the webs from his feet. a rare case of restraint for ya boy
this attempt at the mario strikers style was one of the most challenging! getting the outline thickness and amount of strays to feel right was tough, and that background stuff was even tougher. still don't think i got it 100% (nor really any of these tbh)
like the sugimori piece, i wanted to give props to tim burton's old solo watercolor stuff! a lot of that populated his LACMA exhibit, which really resonated with me as a kid; it made me appreciate him more as an individual artist for sure
another missed opportunity is that i wasn't able to make the rankin-bass one out of clay like i intended. i tried, but the r-b models were made out of wood i believe which is a very particular look. i ended up sort of fusing that modeled look with the style of these r-b dev arts!
it was a really cool artistic choice! sidebar completed
jonni phillips is a huge inspiration. her digital style really resonates with me as someone who does pretty much exclusively digital art, and i wanted to give that props here
the SU ep "the answer" starts in a style inspired by lotte, and when ruby and sapphire fall to earth, the backgrounds go full mary blair. the show evokes two woman animation pioneers to symbolize r&s's radicalization and SU as a show's entrance to the canon of women-led animation
