In addition to creating the first kaiju quarantine area, the USSR also bears the distinction of building the first fully-mechanical giant robot, Herakoschei! Of course, having rushed it to completion, it has a few bugs left in it.
Nastadyne's particularly important since he's a subtle homage to the Henshin heroes of Japan, complete with a super mode called "Burning Justice." As for what they team up against, well, the Japanese episode seemed like the right place to formally introduce aliens to the story.
On the mainland of Japan itself, Tyrantis teams up with the monsters Burodon (my first attempt to make an Ultraman-style kaiju), Kurokame (inspired by Gamera, the mythic beast Genbu, and Bowser), and Nastadyne (who's a mix of Heracross, Pinsir, and an old Megalon redesign I did).
Ok, so, what monsters crop up in Tokyo? Well, first we've got a couple of sea monsters, befitting a trip to an island nation.
EVERY monster from Volume 1 will be coming back for ATOM Volume 2: Tyrantis Roams the Earth, along with some brand new additions to the roster! But we'll cover those tomorrow.
Tyrantis's most vicious enemy from Volume 1 was his cyborg doppelganger, MechaTyrantis, who in turn was made from the mangled body of a rival member of Tyrantis's species. Will MechaTyrantis keep his title as Tyrantis's worst enemy, or will another kaiju prove even worse?
One in particular, however, is hinted in Vol. 1 to be MORE than a simple magnified insect. Will Volume 2 unravel the enigma of Mothmanud? Perhaps!
Of course, he also has a fair share of enemies - gotta have those monster fights, after all. Vol. 1 featured a lot of giant arthropods running amok in homage to the giant bug craze in 50's creature features.
Tyrantis also has some stalwart allies, like the giant prehistoric proto-snake Gorgolisk, the surly, soma berry-addicted Tricerak, and the tender-hearted mutant spider Bobo.
Of course, kaiju stories are more fun when there's more than one monster, and Tyrantis has a bunch of giant monster peers in the series. In classic movie monster style, he has both a "bride" and a son.
