I've re-read Monkey Meat and it remains excellent. @juni_ba you did that.
There are so many instances of deep themes and big speeches in comics, and then there are bits of writing so tiny and so perfect that they can make an issue by meaning nothing much at all. @victorlavalle you're a don.
This has to be on purpose, this white girl who wanted to lead ppl to freedom has been so warped by her proximity to men who wield structural power that she doesn't know what freedom is, demonstrated by her reaction to challenge being what? violence and incarceration.
Her part in this is conditional on them centering her. she has no real vision, but wants deference without dissent. In the flashes to the future, we see her eventual aims. Her "freedom" wasn't liberation for all, it was mobility enough for HER to assume structural power.
