All the fun of the fair torture style on a Meissen cup outside painted circa 1740. It appears to be a figure tied to a wheel watched from above by prisoners tied to stakes watched over by guards.

I love the splendid new cover of this revised book on the eccentric architect John Wood the Elder. Architecture based on mystical foundations always fascinates me. Wood is by far one of the most interesting 18th century architects-
