Dan Gurney was the first driver to wear a full face helmet in F1, instrumental in bring Goodyear tires in Indy car racing,
and the first driver to spray champagne in victory lane, which is now a custom.

The conversation started around the legendary LeeRoy Yarborough in @NASCAR and we talked all the back to Wilber Shaw and his Indy car history!

Around 1983 a Maryland farmer Norris "Speedy" Reed wanted to get back in @NASCAR . In 1976 his car sat on the pole for the Daytona 500. Walt Breeding a Delaware racer who drove for Speedy called me and Racer Brett Hearn to be involved with this new team. Speedy than called

Dale Earnhardt, Sr a country boy that grew up around stock car racing with a dream to race in the Big Time. With the talent and the right breaks he did it! And he did it well! Dale never forgot his roots or his up bringing. He kept it simple and I saw it first hand one day! 🏁

In comes this rickety old truck with hay stacked to the moon. When I met the driver much to my surprise it was none other than Dale Earnhardt. I unhooked the strap to unload. Dale told me to stand back. He revved up the truck and dumped the clutch. The hay unloaded itself.
