Oh hey, #PortfolioDay too huh? Well I'm Sam, former lead concept artist, now freelance artist and creator of The Whaler Girl. I love painting quiet moments and elegant characters.

First piece for 2020! I finished the most complex painting I've ever done yesterday so I took a couple hours to chill with my fave lady, Eidy. Putting the learning from Craig Mullin's Schoolism class to practice! Shape design, not rendering. #thewhalergirl
#2009vs2019challenge Art style. One of the last pieces I did in 2009 vs the last piece I finished in 2019. It's odd to me that I was actually in a similar mind space, albeit slightly different visuals. I'd love to revisit the concept of 2009 soon.
#Artof2019 I've enjoyed 'paring back' my own work this year, doing less rendered pieces & finding a joy in shape and line. I still love a good character painting tho. I can't wait to share this year's NDA stuff eventually next year.
What's your fave piece from this year?
Last reminder that my original piece 'Where you are, so there I'll be' will be available tomorrow at 10:40am EST from @everydayorig (if you're on the mailing list, 11am if not) One of the very rare times my original art is up for sale.
Thread! I'm delighted to share that in March 2020 I've teamed up with a couple of good friends to run a world-building workshop in Ericeira, Portugal. If you're at a point where you have a project and you'd love some guidance, check out the workshop here: https://t.co/UInKi5dSB6
@everydayorig For those who didn't see the IMC piece, here it is. I likely won't be using oils this time due to short turn around, but it'll be a similar sort of piece.
@egoraptor I wish I could share my NDA stuff, but here are some slightly older paintings, oil and acrylic.
