Hi again for #PortfolioDay ! I'm Sam, concept artist and freelance illustrator working on building my own world of The Whaler Girl and other seekrit things.

Beware the jellyfish with no light. A bringer of dark tides, its light lost to an unfortunate soul who drowned and seeks to visit wrath upon those who left them to die at sea.
#maysketchaday day 26. More underwater fun, with blooms of giant stinging jellyfish. #thewhalergirl
#Maysketchaday Day 19. Closeup exploration for the Elderwoman in yesterday's piece. Rougher than the linework I've been doing of late, needed a mental break from the obsessive part of me that needs lines to be perfect. Damn hard to post this one though, I want to fix everything.
'Beyond the rush of the gale against his ears, he could hear the repeated clang of the bells at the Elder's belt, chiming a toll of portent doom. The storm rolled in heavy and dark behind him as if the land and seas themselves had become his theatre.' #maysketchaday day 18
Dangit, running late for day 10 of #maysketchaday but another environment with a little more time put into it than initially intended. Varlsbeyn's coast again, with a little more of the hardy fishermen who work their nets in all weathers.
@djamilaknopf Great thread idea! Your work is just amazing, Djamila, the minute you announce an art book I will throw money at it :) Three of my faves from this year, including 2 from maysketchaday. I need to do more finished stuff!
"Blood of saltwater, she was the ocean. Her heart the beat of the tides, her breath the rush of the waves that wore away the shore."
Day 7 #maysketchaday More fine linework and crazy colours with my main lady Eideann. Needs moar saturation!
#maysketchaday Day 5 and going strong. Trying more of the fine linework approach, still enjoying it a lot. More Spears, this time, Eideann's father Saul, who is one of the town's best whalers, but is often the Spear who takes the success of the hunt hardest.
