You know what I've just began to realize? A lot of media from the late 90s and early 2000s took a lot of inspiration from monster flicks and horror movies of the 30s-50s. While most of the 2010s and the 2020s seemingly replaced that inspiration with Anime influences.

Gustave Caillebotte (1848-94) was a relatively unknown French impressionist, his work only gained recognition in the 1950s. He is admired for his unusual angles, greater realism & concern with people. Boulevard (1880), Seascape (1884) & Paris (1877). He’s a fascinating artist

Most of my old ones are "funny books" like Pogo Possum and Walt Disney Comics & Stories from the 1950s...I have a ton of Classic Illustrated, but they are so hard to determine what printing they are...I do have some of the older versions, but many were reprints.

Mort Sahl was from Montreal, Quebec.

Like so many from Canada, he became a giant figure in American comedy.

He was easily the most talked about stand-up comic of the 1950s.

Her image of women is startlingly modern - it could be from the 1980s! Yet the Still Life might be 1950s. Both works show her as a woman decades more advanced than the zeitgeist. Amazing! Women (1928), Still-Life (1929), Mirage (1930) & Abstract (1930)

“Pennies from Heaven” is a song from the 30s sung by Bing Crosby. Louis Prima made the more ubiquitous version in the 50s. Give both versions a listen and hear just how different they are. The contrast in tone was startling to me; each represents its era in a unique way.

Peugeot's first new model after WW2, the 1290cc 203 went into production in 1948 and is shown in this early brochure in both saloon and the rarer 4-door cabriolet version. The 203, with its US-influenced styling was the company's only car in the early 50s.

If you want one of these as a 1/1 then nows the time. I'm dangerously close to burning them and moving them to hen as 50/50s. Just thought I'd give fair warning.

Shutter shades started in the 50s. The 80s models are bit more recognizable to us but it’s Alain Mikli’s design, popularized by Kanye West, that we know. The guy has Mikli’s design.
