Unfinished Bluehead Chub for This fathers day, spare a thought for the fish that, using only his mouth and a lot of determination, builds a huge mound of stones (often several feet across in less than 24h!) to protect his eggs, and guards them until they hatch.

Met a new kind of fish in a restaurant aquarium yesterday. The mirror carp is notable for having irregular scale patterns— much of their body is smooth, but they have enormous mirror-like scales in uneven patches across their backs and sides.

A sturgeon for today's theme of fish that breed in the spring. I did this one a few years ago that was made into decals placed on the floor of the Belle Isle Aquarium when their sturgeons arrived. I think that some of them are still there.
