特撮ファンであれば円谷英一さん等と同じように特撮の神様の一人として知られている方です。
最近思うのはこの方やフィル・ティペットさんなどが特撮マンとして名前で記憶される最後の世代ではないかと。
今やILMやWETAなど会社名ですもんね。
なんだか寂しいですね。

Finally found a good photo from our stint on The Hobbit when was still slated to direct. Clearly a w.i.p. cut short. I had just finished working the body musculature when Weta Workshop called w the bad news. Hence its rough/largely unfinished appearance (wingless, etc).

Yamazaku Susumu 山崎烝 of the Shinsengumi was a famous user of the nagamaki lit. "long wrap"- kinda like a naginata on an extended sword grip rather than pole.
Possibly derived from Chinese pudao 樸刀, it's what WETA Lord of the Rings elf swords are based off of
