The various growing stages of the cashew apple and nut, depicted all at the same time in an engraving by James Forbes from 1813. Forbes was Warehousekeeper of the Factory at Anjengo, #Travancore, and produced numerous works illustrating the landscape and nature of #SouthIndia.
Printmaker @EACCIllustrator has a passion for wood engraving. In her own words, wood engraving can be a powerful, graphic form, playful and quirky, or gently lyrical. Her prints are beautiful and her stall stall is definitely one to look out for at our fair this November.
This image is from Lusus Poeticus Poetis, a book of poetry by 17thC poet Edward Bendlowes. Born to a wealthy Catholic family, Bendlowes made a name for himself as an arts patron & poet. He drew on his resources to commission engravings (like this one) illustrating his poems.
