Alternative move brushes! Move topological and elastic can be super handy.
If you have merged subtools, topological can isolate and grab individual objects without the need for masking. Elastic acts like a cross between move and snakehook and is great for posing hair or cloth

There's probably simpler/more elegant ways to do it, but here's what I did. 1) append cylinder, 2) use topology brush to draw spiral, 3) create geo from topology, 4) delete guide cylinder, give the swirl a bit more length, and bevel the edge
