While I don't dislike Hiroyuki Sawano's works for the recent UC projects, I feel like his style is way too "pop"-ish for stories of this scale. I prefer something that sounds closer to Shigeaki Saegusa's score for CCA.

I shade using a single layer because it feels more organic to me. I also exclusively shade in grayscale.
I use the poseable 3D dolls that come with Clip Studio Paint for light and shadow references. It comes in handy for perspectives, too.
