this is an older painting I did around this time last summer!! it’s a scene from a Norwegian folktale I turned into a children’s book for a book illustration class 🌟 I decided the polar bear prince needed to live in an iceberg castle! I wanna redo this and make the trees pink 💕

In Slavic folktales Sirin & Alkonost are 2 birds of paradise. Half bird, half woman they come down to earth to sing their hypnotic sweet song to man. The sirin symbolises joy & light, the alkonost, sorrow and darkness.

In a Norwegian folktale lily of the valley was created by the spring goddess who wished to brighten up the dark days of early spring. To do so she took pieces of her green dress to fashion the stalks and dotted them with snow to create the bright white flowers.
