An experiment in grisaille that didn't really go as planned, but it was a learning experience all the same.

Refined that sketch and tried a sort of pseudo-grisaille effect.
This was a fun experiment! And now I need to sleep.

Possibly my new favourite manuscript! Add MS 24189 (c.1410, Bohemia), a text-free series of full-page miniatures depicting scenes from the Book of John Mandeville. The work is grisaille, with colour really effectively applied for dramatic effect.

Not a bad place to hang out... beginning grisaille stages of a lake house commission. Looking forward to seeing this one progress! .

Spent some of today doing the underpainting for a group portrait, and using acrylics for the first time as I want to try glazing oils over that. They’re very different to oils but I’m getting used to them https://t.co/95g9WFBYA0

Finally got a hang with the tools. Using a combination of pen, watercolour and blend. kakage's way of painting is basically grisaille technique

Sorry I’ve been so quiet! Still plugging away - only a few days left to finish in time. Really enjoying the process of this technique.

Adriaen van der Werff was one of the most famous Dutch painters at the turn of the 18th century, known for his use of colour so this grisaille painting, probably of Samson and Delilah, shows a less familiar side to his work. See this work in https://t.co/1s00j0GLJD
