On this day in 1573, the naval battle of Haarlem’s lake was fought. A Spanish fleet fought successfully against Dutch rebels (Geuzen). Today Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is situated in what used to be the Haarlem’s lake but was drained in the 19th century.😳
