“The defeat of the Spanish Armada” by Philiippe-Jacques de Loutherbourg. Painted two centuries after the Battle of Gravelines that it depicts, it is over dramatic - but I do still like it.

1316: Edward Bruce, Earl of Carrick (younger brother of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland) crowned himself king of Ireland near Dundalk, Co Louth. Had invaded Ireland the previous year. Stayed another 2 1/2 yrs but killed Oct 1318 at Battle of Faughart (near where crowned).
