We have definitely shared this story before, but it is one of our favourites and is perfect for #EmpathyDay because even librarians need to remember to be empathetic to the people who visit our libraries, even lions.

It's hard enough trying to make sense of people as an adult, imagine how difficult it is for a 5 year old! #EmpathyDay is today. We react much better to difficult situations when we try to understand the reasons behind them. #illustration detail from "The Peg People" #kidlit

This is just kinda...haunting isn't it?? Judai so desperate he refuses to feel empathy for Yubel, thinks only anger can defeat them. Judai said Yubel refused to listen to him but in the same way...isn't he refusing to listen to or understand Yubel by doing this?
Empathy Day is just around the corner on June 10th. This year’s theme is “Walking in someone else’s shoes”. Find out what is happening this year and download the family toolkit here: https://t.co/YOWhHG4uPu

@kashleyenglish @davidjalmond @nikkigamble @imaginecentre Nice to see they had the two magpies (for joy?) on the hardback. More prominent on my paperback copy. Love this book. A perfect blend of empathy and humour. I’ve got one of Polly Dunbar’s originals framed from this.
Alexander "Alex"
Age: 15
Leader, the evil mastermind, the psychopath of the group, short fused and unpredictable.
Likes: fucked up stuff, and to fuck up stuff
Dislikes: when he doesn't get the credit of what he does
Brawl 4/5
Brains 4/5
Charisma 0/5
Empathy -5/5
Our autistic OC of the day is Marco Marcos!
While his hyper-empathy makes him super charismatic, others' overwhelming feelings keep him from forming connections. He is hypo sensitive and often seeks out stimulation; he loves physical touch and listens to music for hours on end.
