I have no time to draw today, so here are some older illustrations for today's #SundayFishSketch
The ruivaco (Achondrostoma occidentale) is probably the rarest freshwater fish in Portugal.
This small Cyprinid is endangered due to habitat loss and invasive species and can only be found in a couple of streams.

For my first #sundayfishsketch, say hi to Petrus rupestris, (or the red steenbras,) a relatively large but rare fish belonging to the family of sea breams and porgies. This species is endemic to South Africa but is now unfortunately endangered due to overfishing.
An old sketch for the "rare fish" theme - lindog (Barbodes lindog) is a critically endangered (possibly extinct) cyprind fish only found in Lake Lanao of the Philippines - it used to be a commercially important food fish before declines in the mid-20th century #SundayFishSketch
The #SundayFishSketch brief for this week was rare fish. I don't know just how rare the Caribbean Roughshark is but I found details on its ecology hard to come by, so I'm guessing that encounters are pretty rare.
The Philippine tawili is the world’s only freshwater sardine, and it’s found exclusively in Lake Tagaytay, Luzon. It’s also a popular local dish and as a result is endangered due to overfishing. #SundayFishSketch
It's #taxonomytuesday and now everyone can see what my #sundayfishsketch was for. Matilda has picked one of the species that we share our home with this week for the #MapOfLife. The #NeonTetra
I've got a double dose of #SundayFishSketch this week. I fulfilled the brief with a simple flying fish, intentionally simple for a project that I'm working on. I've also included a neon tetra that has a little bit more detail.

#SundayFishSketch a bit early since i dont know how busy I will be tomorrow.
My #SundayFishSketch is the splash tetra, Copella arnoldi!
Their reproduction occurs outside of the water- they jump onto the underside of a leaf where they adhere their fertilised eggs. The male tends to them, splashing water on the eggs until they hatch & fall into the water.
My latest for #SundayFishSketch , the newly identified scyliorhinus hachijoensis. Catsharks are one of the largest families of sharks. They have very cat-like eyes and are fairly small, with most species no longer than 31 inches, though the nursehound shark can reach up to 5.2 ft
For our reproductive-strategy-themed #SundayFishSketch, have a chum #salmon in mating colors! The bright red and hooked mouth help this male attract mates. #illustration #fish #nature #wildlife #freshwaterfish #Oncorhynchusketa #Pacificsalmon
Combining themes for #SundayFishSketch. Yellow perch females lay strings/ribbons of eggs during the spring mating season. (Also belated congrats to @DrKatfish!)
manifests into physical form once a week to draw fISH for #SundayFishSketch haha
california grunion where the females dig themselves into the sand tailfirst to lay eggs while the males wriggle around them on the beach at night
Back to #SundayFishSketch with a literal take on the theme "Fish Battle Royale" - the battle between native lake trout + invasive sea lamprey in the #GreatLakes is one time when it's accurate to refer to your opponent as a "bloodsucker" (lampreys are cool in their native range!)
#SuperBowl of the aquarium for #SundayFishSketch…The German Blue Ram Cichlid (Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi) vs. the “Bengal” Tiger Barb (Puntigrus pentazona). Love the #FishyTheme challenging prompt @Lampichthys to sketch 2 fish species I’d like to see battle in the 2022 #FISHBOWL.
Our favorite shark is today's #SundayFishSketch theme. I couldn't pick just one, so I did a hammerhead, a thresher and a mako.
