Jax's MK9 attire wasn't too practical either. Neither was the rest of the male cast. And Jax has been shirtless since MK1. Hell, he was shirtless in DA as well. The most practically dressed fighter was probably Stryker in MK9, who is remembered as the most boring fighter.

I still really like the original version of this pic (with the non-canon blue and black uniform), so I finally got around to editing it to give Stryker his proper Starfleet uniform (as well as making some other minor changes, like adjusting the size of his ear).

The GM for the STA TTRPG said that it's okay for Stryker to wear the classic TNG uniform as long as he has the updated combadge, so....I think this is the 4th uniform edit I've done on this pic XD
