first time ever painted on top of a 3D model made by a good friend or mine. I would say the experience of painting made it more easier with proper lighting, shadow and textures speeding up the early process.

did a big ol' portrait for a friend's birthday!! the reference photo had some gorgeous lighting, and I got to test out a crap ton of new techniques. I don't draw people too often, but I'm pretty stoked with how this turned out!

I’ve always been curious at the key art Yoshida made for FFXIV, So I gave my guess that he paints over 3D models over a shot. I think a lot of it gets covered during the block in phase in 3D such as posing and lighting, and then Yoshida ties it all together.

i dont know honestly bc like.... i combine my layers pretty frequently, but after combined probably around one for each part (skin, different clothes, accessories) then 1-2 for shading/lighting, sometimes per layer, then up to 5-8 for lighting. this one has 30 layers in total! https://t.co/c4yzIYKqRZ
