マーガリンは、バターの安価な代用品として19世紀末にフランスで開発されました。日本では1887年から輸入が始まり1908年に国産化に成功。人造バターと呼ばれていましたが、1952年に呼称を変えました。英語の発音はマージャリンに近いそうです。
