In retrospective, this year I reconnected with storytelling and cinematography after diving around for a good while. Still have a long way to go, but I think these would be my faves. Here's to more and better next year! 🥂

Goddamn, the re-authored Blu-ray of The Thing (1982) is so damn impressive. Looks amazing and goes to show just how well the cinematography holds up.

But personally, I might stick to the DVD copy as the dated resolution better suits the grittiness the movie's going for.

Fanny Lye Deliver’d - Shot in glorious 35mm, Thomas Clay’s immersive post-civil war folk-western-horror is a bleak, brutal and expertly rendered study of oppression & emancipation at a remote Shropshire homestead. Performances, designs, cinematography & score all superb! 👏

Wow...Joker was so good. That score is haunting, the cinematography is PERFECTION and oh my goodness just hand Joaquin Phoenix the Oscar. The last 30 minutes was overwhelming. I’m shocked we got a comic book movie as unique as this.
