One aspect I think gets overlooked is disability, or the need for help, take cyclops needing special glasses, Rogue having issues with touching people, or various drawbacks some characters have, making it a good disability metaphor or help metaphor.
I find it super funny that Blaze's "Melting the Ice-Queen" arc in Rush is capped off with the most blatant visual metaphor I've ever seen. Like- it's literally called "Burning Blaze".

The Hand of God. God, personified in human form in Western Art, did not appear till the 10th century. Prior to that God was represented as a disembodied hand or not at all. The Hand of God as an artistic metaphor was imported from Jewish art. Examples date from the 3rd C.
