Lady Alice Evelyn Mahon painted by Sir John Lavery in 1932 which is on display in Westport House, in Co. Mayo. Lady Alice was born in March 1877, the daughter of the 5th Marquess of Sligo, Lord Henry Ulick Browne. Lady Alice married John Fitzgerald Mahon 1898 & lived until 1970.

Cyclosporine, an important immunosuppressive drug used in transplant patients, was first isolated from a soil fungus found in Norway and Wisconsin in 1970. The first surgeons to use it in transplant patients were Roy Calne (kidneys) and Thomas Starzl (liver), starting in 1980.
