Tonight's movie was John Carpenter's THE THING. I never tire of studying the craftsmanship in this movie from Carpenter, Cundey, Bottin and the cast. It feels so modern it could have been made last week. No CGI has ever come close to the make-up fx wizardry here. A perfect film.

Decided to rewatch ROBOCOP and it’s every bit as jaw dropping as it was in 1987. They can do great things today with CGI but absolutely nothing touches the brilliance of perfectly executed practical fx. Rob Bottin once again proves what a genius he is. This is how SciFi is done.
