Remembering Staff Sergeant 'Elmer' Wright, killed in the first few moments of the landing at Omaha Beach. A member of the St Louis Browns organisation, he had won the ETO World Series in 1943 with the regimental ball team, the Plymouth Yankees.

The Map Department’s postcard collection brings me to Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Here I enjoy the city's fine waterfront and I am again confronted with the reality that much of what I see here was lost during WW2 and subsequently revitalised after the war.
