Poussin (1594-1665) painted Acis & Galatea. Although created in Rome in 1627-8, this stunning mythological piece has a classic French colour palette. The lovers are exquisitely portrayed. Poussin is out of favour now but deserves more interest.

OTD 1594 O'Donnell planned to bring over 4,000 Scots redshanks into Loughs Foyle and Swilly. Plan fails and Scots troops have small role in war. Tyrone doesn't like using them because of indiscipline but powerful shock element missing from Irish army for rest of war
