Breath of Fire III. One of my buddies owned it growing up, and it was the first non-Pokemon RPG I ever saw. Being able to fight with 3 people at once blew my mind lol. And the hand-drawn sprites, jazz-inspired ost, and narrative about self-discovery have always stuck with me!

their session exiles are hardly a step up as parents of course but it fits so perfectly! & it communicates (to me atleast) more clearly how they ended up the way they did, in a visual-narrative way

We all know i have my opinions on the mechanics and what i'd prefer my Final Fantasy games to be.

But Final Fantasy XVI looks like it could be an extremely special game, especially from the perspective of the characters, world and narrative.
