Hi did you know I have a comic about ammonites and capitalism and cute pirate boys and you can read it for free at the links in the reply? WOW what a great deal

10. And last but not least, the ammonite behind it all! Ammonites have a global distribution, but the Southern Carnarvon Basin in WA has the richest concentration of latest Cretaceous ammonites of anywhere in the world. A fun fact which I only learned in my resarch for this logo!

Ammonoid Doodles

Just some little paleoart doodles of some wacky heteromorph ammonites that I find unique. I did some research for the soft body tissue, trying to get some accuracy.

The Devonian saw Earth’s first forests as lycophytes, horsetails and ferns grew to large sizes. The first ammonites appeared in the oceans and cartilaginous fish such as sharks and rays were abundant by the late Devonian. Lots of tectonic activity and Pangaea began to form 🌎

Open ocean view during the Late Devonian (left) and today (right). This is one of the illustrations I did for the 2nd book of the “Extinct” book series, which main star is Dunkleosteus (here seen about to catch some ammonites). The first 3 books are out TODAY!

Para esta nueva semana temática reutilizo 2 dibujos pasados sobre los ammonites encontrados en Fuerteventura (Canarias) y Maio (Cabo Verde), habitantes de un joven Atlántico con multitud de formas y tamaños

We played Broken Picture Phone in the post-#paleostream, some of the better images.

Fun fact: The Penis Joe one was originally a open chest with ammonites feasting on it, but is was too afraid, so i censored it.

Some fossils can become pyrite, a form of mineral mistaken with gold. This happens mostly to precrambrian fossils, like ammonites and trilobites, so I made this of & with pyrite shells, both are water/steel type

Have spent the afternoon with ammonites, so here's some of biggest one of all for Parapuzosia. A small mosasaur is being scavenged (we don't know what the ecology of Parapuzosia was, but lots of ammonites are thought to be nektobenthic scavengers).

The only thing I'm not sure about is the posture here, if I remember correctly the buoyancy of ammonites often times leads to a more upwards facing opening of the shell

Princess Ammo-Kaguya! Based on ammolite, which comes from ammonites. She rules over a kingdom of, like, fossil people.

Oh, one more for this thread: sometimes ammonites play supporting roles in my artwork rather than starring. ⭐️

The last living ammonites vanished from Earth's oceans along with the non-avian dinosaurs during the K-Pg extinction event.

I've been using ammonites in my artwork for many years. They can simply be appreciated for their beauty. But I'm always trying to hint at themes of impermanence, ecology & how tiny humankind is in the context of deep time.

I'm going to share a few ammonoid artworks from my archives for Ammonites were once so plentiful in ancient seas that they're used as index fossils, but are now extinct.

Omanyte are considered extinct but can be revived from fossils! Omanyte control their buoyancy by manipulating the stored air within their shell. Research is limited on this rare Pokémon but they resemble ammonites, an extinct mollusk. Ammonites may have been able to spray ink 🦑
