That was actually what I was going to say.
But I'd already said it a day or two ago, so I didn't want to repeat myself. 😁 The trees and bunkers are kinda annoying obstacles. Whereas, any real miss putting you in the drink gives the game a real sense of jeopardy. It works better.

I generally would play New Vegas on Very Hard with Hardcore Mode enabled, and I usually go this way. There's a path through the mountains near the Hidden Valley bunkers so you don't have to go through Quarry Junction.
