Celebrating the wondrous work of Beatrix Potter this #SisterhoodSunday. Expert illustrator (with PRB attention to detail), conservationist & mycologist.
The Potters were close friends with Millais who told a young Beatrix :"plenty of people can 'draw', but you have INSPIRATION".
Beatrix Potter born #OTD in 1866, English writer & illustrator of children’s stories. She also made huge contributions to science but was barred from presenting her work at the Linnaean Society due to her gender. Today, mycologists use her work to identify mushroom species .
To close out AAPI month, we celebrate the remarkable work of Dr. Gloria Lim, a mycologist from Singapore focusing on tropical fungi. She has built a repository of regional fungi and published over 100 scientific articles/chapters on mycology.

Scientist chicken oc machine go brrrrrrr
They're a mycologist who collects fungi + works with poisons. I am literally just projecting my unrealistic desire to live in a tree house in the woods and collect mushrooms
Other names used by Hussey are probably unfamiliar to the modern mycologist...
The Orcella https://t.co/WgkZwpQodG
Spatterdash Agaric https://t.co/xUzaFYbOfy
... but quite delightful. #MycoBookClub
She rails too against the WRONG names.
"Judas's Ears. That is the correct name, not Jew's Ears, as commonly given..." https://t.co/8vqLWWTIo5
Mycologists now commonly refer to this species as Jelly Ear. #MycoBookClub
Hussey also writes humorously on the challenges facing Mycologists in "the labyrinth of modern bewilderment".
For example here, on the genus Russula:
