Lanternfishes are their name and zooplankton their game. Lanternfishes are one of the most abundant vertebrates on the planet and generally speaking, feast on zooplankton. I even recently published a paper in jmorph on lanternfish heterodont dentition! #sundayfishsketch
Seawater enters the front of the CPR and is filtered through a band of fine silk mesh which acts like a fishing net to catch the plankton. A 2nd band of silk covers the 1st to create a “plankton sandwich” which is fixed in-situ using a buffered formalin solution #CPRSurvey
In a new episode each week #DavidAttenborough will describe a different member of the plankton. Keep watching to hear their remarkable stories unfold. https://t.co/fnPVVltu31
