Ann Walker’s death #OTD 1854 was bad news for #TitusSalt her tenant in Crow Nest Lightcliffe. Busy with his mill at #Saltaire not a year old, the Salts had to leave the home they loved. In 1867 Titus grabbed the mansion at a bargain price when it failed to sell at auction. #Pass https://t.co/z9BB8xZt43

A Scandinavian Happy Christmas on Day 20 of the #Saltaire Living Advent Calendar at 8 Mary St. In 1884 Mary Rushworth 14, a spinner, enjoyed a walk with friends but then fell on her face nr the gate to the park. Pronounced dead by Dr Rutherford, she was carried home to No8.
At 24 Fanny St on Day 18 of the #Saltaire Living Advent Calendar a perfect festive scene at Christmas in 1901 for James Griffiths, wife Lavinia & two children. 5yrs later James an Overlooker pleaded #NotGuilty to stealing a chicken from a Nab Wood field. Caught #RedHanded
Disaster averted at 6 Jane St #Saltaire on day 16 of the Living Advent Calendar. Santa & his reindeer were re-directed from no20 and were delighted to pose in the window. In 1871 the Harrisons didn’t tell their 5 children they nearly missed out on presents #JingleBells
Day 6 of the #Saltaire Living Advent Calendar. The wonderful window at 8 Amelia St may have been influenced by #TitusSalt Jnr’s trips to Egypt & the Holy Land. 150yrs ago his magic lantern slideshow of his travels entertained the village in Victoria Hall. #ChristmasIsComing
#TitusSalt had a #bandstand built in his 1871 #Saltaire park & would be delighted that live music was still entertaining the crowds during the #SaltaireFestival, the annual event first staged in 2003 to commemorate 150yrs of his model village & his birthday, of course! https://t.co/B53TJvuMPR

Not welcome in the 18thC Kings Arms, William Nicholson preached temperance in #Beverley, denouncing those who supped the #DevilsBroth. A message supported by #TitusSalt who banned pubs in #Saltaire, whilst the bar a 1 Victoria Rd would have met with his approval.
