Highly respected & well-known #Saltaire resident, Nick Baggio, has died. In 1981 fluent Italian-speaker Nick was one of the first Blue Badge Guides for #Bradford. A bereavement counsellor, he raised his children after their mother Susan Fassbender’s death in 1991. A wonderful man
#Saltaire #LivingAdventCalendar at 5 Ada St. In 1880, Sarah Drake was left a widow with 4 children aged 1 to 12 when her husband (37) died. Martha the eldest was a spinner in Salts Mill & Sarah worked as a charwoman to put Christmas dinner on the table.
Merry Christmas to all!
#Saltaire #LivingAdventCalendar at 74 Victoria Rd. In 1881 it was home to Hannah Fell a widow & her 9 children and all but Harry (6) were toiling for #TitusSalt. There was however plenty on the table on #XmasDay
Northern Mills or Devon Hills, a choice I have to take. Linocut or Line & Wash, decisions I must make! ... it’s an ART DAY today! 😀😀 #linocutprint #saltaire #mansands @GrimArtGroup @DevonArtistNet @SaltsMill @SaltaireStories @VisitDevonUK
@jennylmooney Managed to find some time. The colours are lovely; a really peaceful exhibition #Hockney #Saltaire

Opened #OTD 1914, the Alhambra #Bradford was built on the site of Rands Mill, which was next door to #TitusSalt’s family home. Former #Saltaire pupil Marie Studholme, gaiety girl & Music Hall star, was mobbed at the opening of the theatre in her home town.
Ann Walker’s death #OTD 1854 was bad news for #TitusSalt her tenant in Crow Nest Lightcliffe. Busy with his mill at #Saltaire not a year old, the Salts had to leave the home they loved. In 1867 Titus grabbed the mansion at a bargain price when it failed to sell at auction. #Pass https://t.co/z9BB8xZt43
Hello again.
The artist here call themselves ‘Bear Print and Design.
I found them at The Saltaire Art Gallery. When I lived in the area in the 1950/60s. The Museum and Art Gallery didn’t exist. It was a depressed area. No longer though. It’s now ‘ Hot’ and Hockney orientated
A Scandinavian Happy Christmas on Day 20 of the #Saltaire Living Advent Calendar at 8 Mary St. In 1884 Mary Rushworth 14, a spinner, enjoyed a walk with friends but then fell on her face nr the gate to the park. Pronounced dead by Dr Rutherford, she was carried home to No8.
At 24 Fanny St on Day 18 of the #Saltaire Living Advent Calendar a perfect festive scene at Christmas in 1901 for James Griffiths, wife Lavinia & two children. 5yrs later James an Overlooker pleaded #NotGuilty to stealing a chicken from a Nab Wood field. Caught #RedHanded
Disaster averted at 6 Jane St #Saltaire on day 16 of the Living Advent Calendar. Santa & his reindeer were re-directed from no20 and were delighted to pose in the window. In 1871 the Harrisons didn’t tell their 5 children they nearly missed out on presents #JingleBells
Day 6 of the #Saltaire Living Advent Calendar. The wonderful window at 8 Amelia St may have been influenced by #TitusSalt Jnr’s trips to Egypt & the Holy Land. 150yrs ago his magic lantern slideshow of his travels entertained the village in Victoria Hall. #ChristmasIsComing
#TitusSalt had a #bandstand built in his 1871 #Saltaire park & would be delighted that live music was still entertaining the crowds during the #SaltaireFestival, the annual event first staged in 2003 to commemorate 150yrs of his model village & his birthday, of course! https://t.co/B53TJvuMPR

Hosting the royals at MilnerField in 1887, the strain of the loss-making Jubilee Exhibition in #Saltaire is clearly visible on 44yr old #TitusSalt. He collapsed fatally in his mansion 6 months later. #HeartFailure https://t.co/VUWqcfGAmO
