It Is #Mermay2019 My Dudes
which means it is time for Sirenians, aka mantees, aka manataurs, aka the first mammalian mermaids. gentle giants with bewitching voices and a surprising amount of boat flipping strength.

So "tongue-eating isopods" eat & replace fish tongues, right? This has bothered me, bc fish have bony tongues (unlike mammalian muscular tongues), so how is this possible? My @HowardU student Briana Washington analyzed a CT scan of a parasitized jack & found the tongue intact!
"Hay, Caught me on my brake. Care for a drink?"
All 3 virsions of my mammalian swimmy boi stripper, offering you a drink :)

#SonicTheHedgehog The Echidna, cousin to both the Hedgehog and the traditional Ant Eater. Contradicting his mammalian ancestry, this specimen prefers grapes! He appears to be the protective type, with a temper to boot. But a gentle heart underneath.
a fluffy cobra design i made in a design trade with @jitobeans
it was fun to focus on overall silhouette with this guy. Plus i just love the idea of a snake with mammalian features like fur.
If we lose #Pangolins, we lose 80 million years of evolution and the only representative of the mammalian order -#pholidota. Let's not allow #pangolins become synonymous with the #dodo.
Happy #WorldPangolinDay

Drew @drakkel’s Scarlett. I generally don’t put mammalian characteristics on lizard/dragon characters but respect the opinions of people who do. There’s more that unites us than divides us.
Ooooooh!
Analysing the preferred habitats and travel corridors of introduced mammalian predators in NZ, in pretty colours...
my friend wanted to know what non-mammalian animal i would choose as a sona, so i drew myself as a glass frog.
@Bat_Week ♥️. One of our favorite bat illustrations in #BHLib is that of the common vampire bat (Desmodus rotundus) from "The zoology of the voyage of H.M.S. Beagle" (Mammalia, 1839), edited by Charles #Darwin. In #BHLib thanks to @NHM_Library: https://t.co/ZyAgvHRn9E #BatWeek
For #FossilFriday here is a gif showing how backbone regionalization changed during mammal evolution. The highly modular structure of mammals has allowed them to adapt to diverse environments and move in many different ways. Thanks for paving the way non-mammalian therapsids!
#7 First week of my challenge done! Today is our favorite mammalian principal!☕✨ #bnha #principalnezu

🦁 Happy #WorldLionDay! #Lion (Panthera leo) #SciArt by Friedrich Wilhelm Kuhnert from Alfred Edmund Brehm's "Life of Animals", Vol. 1: Mammalia (1895). Contributed in #BHLib by the Research Library of the @AMNH: https://t.co/nJ83aoXrum
Scientific illustrations in the mid 1800s were just stunning. This is a skull of a cave hyena from Somerset, in 'British Pleistocene Mammalia' (1866). (Art by J. Greene). #FossilFriday
