Nintendo of Japan went HARD during the NES and SNES era with titles that defied the "family-friendly" image they had in the west.

Its a shame we missed on these games back then, but GOD I'm glad we avoided a gigantic controversy between SMT and every religious group on the US.

The real reason why we'll never get remakes of the SNES DKC games is that the DKC3 enemies would look pretty terrifying in remakes if they made them look more like they do in the artwork than in-game.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES, 1996)
An absolutely wonderful game, if you haven't played it, please play it. This game was the prepiece that would lead into Paper Mario, and personally I recommend this game to literally anyone.

The Mummy and Mummy Boy’s final design back then weren’t much different from each other aside from the mouth coloration.

That all changed when the DQ3 Remake for the SNES came around and gave Mummy’s bandages a purple coloring to it.
