we know his crotch is also wrapped in bandages, there isn't much detail there but quickly looking up how like mummies were wrapped there does seem to be some method to wrapped one's crotch area in bandages for total coverage

Same principles apply to different coloring techniques, for this one I had a semi cell-shading style, notice how depth detection works a LOT better with well defined blocks of color. I'd spend more time on the parts where the light doesn't have a big effecting area.

Ok, so my style of shading uses a paintbrush without pen pressured brush size. In order to control the width of the brush, I use shortcuts to make the brush smaller/larger.

First thing I do is paint a large, very light wash of shading everywhere except the highlighted area
