Today, P. cuvieri has its own genus, Cimoliopterus. We recognise it as an ornithocheiromorph, a long-winged, ocean-going species closely related to Ornithocheirus and Anhanguera. It was among the last of the toothed pterosaurs. But can we still consider it a giant?
It's New Year's Eve, so obviously time to talk about the discovery of giant pterosaurs. Most of us think of one animal as _the_ first giant pterosaur: the 7 m wingspan, North American Pteranodon. BUT - what if I told you this wasn't the first pterosaur giant known? Thread...
Some more continuous line drawings with ink-based watercolours! This time pterosaurs!
Really enjoying this style of drawing. Fast, effective and relaxing!

Do you know those terrible looking flightless pterosaurs from World of Kong? I think they are more serviceable as an evolved version of the flappy handed aquatic compsognathus paleoart meme.
@WryCritic You know what?! You really just might!
I remember when pterosaurs looked like this, and as a kid I really disliked them because of it . But now, with a more realistic and believable design, I adore them a lot!
@NomadicAllo Those are very obviously just regular, placeholder CG birds. Aside from one flightless species, canonically there are no flying pterosaurs on the 2005 Skull Island. The animals seen many times in the background during the film are likely just seagulls.
@WryCritic giving her talk on “The Rise & Demise Of Non-Pterodactyloid Pterosaurs”. #TetZooMCon #pterosaurs
Nearly the last call for #TetZooMCon, happening tomorrow from 4pm UK-time. Talks on creature design, extinct #birds, #Neanderthals, #pterosaurs, a British big cat discussion event, a social event (bring your own drinks!) AND MORE. Book here: https://t.co/Dkp9p9Bzgf
Support for our hypothesis of evolutionary relationships comes from across the entire skeleton, and also from neuroanatomical information. Lagerpetids were prob. quite active animals, possibly arboreal & their sensory capabilities might have paved the way for pterosaurs 4/9
Like Pterosaurs? Like the Jurassic Period? Like me rambling? I'll be talking about evolution of non-pterodactyloid pterosaurs this #TetZooMCon, along with plethora of whos-whos of zoo/palaeo & palaeoart world! Sign up: https://t.co/ejE0qyevIT
ONE WEEK until #TetZooMCon, our Zoom-based meeting, happening Sat 12th Dec 2020. Talks on extinct #birds, #Neanderthals, #pterosaurs, creature design, a British big cat event, and a HUGE #paleoart session (with limited places). Schedule and tickets here: https://t.co/Dkp9p9Bzgf
Say what you wanna say about Avatar. But its space pterosaurs were real neat.
Arambourgiania was one of the largest pterosaurs, with a wingspan of up to 13 metres!

I think this idea is worth considering, probably only for small pterosaurs though https://t.co/bqXVg1aQoL
@NHM_London Maybe not dinosaurs... but pterosaurs... lots of pterosaurs.
@MetTiinA Also reminds me of the flightless pterosaurs from Peter Jackson's King Kong, only seen in the art book.
Coding some of crazy Yixian pterosaurs, adorable Pangupterus is one of them
