practicing landscapes, i made this piece to show that even the largest titanosaurs are miniscule in comparison to earth itself.

Quick Sauropod painting.

I tried out a new painting style. basically painting in one layer.
I studied about some soft edges and hard edges and starting out with neutural colours and I ended up liking this painterly style.
so I might stick to this style from now on.

Datousaurus; painted by Kirk. This was one of my favorite Sauropods in the book. The colors stood out so well to me, that they inspired my interpretation of the same animal over two decades later. Mine on the right for comparison; not exact, but very inspired.

I needed another sauropod next to Giraffatitan for Tendaguru, so I simply squished an old model of Apatosaurus into the comparably dwarf diplodocoid Dicraeosaurus hansemanni. I never realised how small they are (still in dinosaur measurements, but still). Kinda cute. Early stage.

Dino Fact!

Rebbachisaurus (Rebbach Lizard) is a sauropod from Late Cretaceous Africa! Like some other dinos, it had tall neural spines that likely formed a hump or sail! Its exact purpose is unknown, but it might've been for display or storing energy!

Dino Fact!

Fukuititan (Fukui Titan) is a sauropod from Early Cretaceous Japan! It's the first sauropod to be found there! It became smaller than most other sauropods as a result of living on an island, though not to the extent of Magyarosaurus!

Dino Fact!

Spinophorosaurus (Spine-bearing Lizard) is a sauropod from Middle Jurassic Africa! It had spikes at the end of its tail, similar to the thagomizers stegosaurs had! It might've used its tail spikes for defense, but it's unclear for now!

New paper on the enigmatic diplodocoid Amphicoelias altus , one of the earliest named sauropod dinosaurs from the Late Jurassic Morrison Formation, USA, in which we argue that Morrison sauropod diversity is under-, not over-estimated🦕https://t.co/YBM5Gb9xTX

This one was a long time in the making, as I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted. Here’s the finished piece along with the dinosaur study and the original sketch. The human figures in the early stages are way out of scale - the final creature has ended up much bigger!
