I'll admit that (gasp) I used the eyedropper tool here to start. It helped me gauge values and paint a fun, relaxing practice piece in a single sitting. learned lots about light and colour.

tip if ur having trouble w/ur character's color palettes, try greyscaling what u have so far and check your values.
it can help you decide how light or dark a color should be to bring more harmony to your palette
timing myself doing this warm up for pricing purposes and so i have a better idea of how long it actually takes for me to do things. from blank canvas to this final pass (added the desaturated layer to check my values) it took about 2 hours total time not including breaks.

@Photoshop Hello! I'm a traditional artist that uses mostly watercolour and acrylic but I do often use photoshop to correct values on photos and create compositions before painting, as I deal with mostly virtual subjects.
When I was getting close to what I thought) was the start of my comic, I ended up doing a lot of test work. I wanted to feel out my style and workflow, along with practice using values. My comic is mostly greyscale so I needed to figure things out. (1/5)
