I think what i didn't like about The Hobbit was that everything was so surreal(?) or un-real(?) and they relied so heavily on CGI that even some of the characters didn't look real, and i don't know, it just didn't feel grounded (chz) :/

One thing I'm curious is if alongside the prosthetics, they will also use some movie magic to make Colin Farrell appear shorter for Penguin, like with Gimli and the hobbits in LOTR.

John Rhys-Davies is 6′1″ and yet you would never be able to tell when he's playing Gimli.

I love Rankin Bass' stuff, the design of Smaug in The Hobbit is a fave, it's not what you'd expect from a typical dragon design with it incorporating feline features and fur but that's what I like about it.
